The Shortlist

After ten years of covering recruitment in editorial, SCOUTED has a deep understanding of where value is found.

Our global approach to player discovery has been refined to most notably focus on the emerging markets of Scandinavia, the Balkans, Japan, Africa and Australia, as well as South American leagues outside of Brazil and Argentina. We also believe in the value found within the second and third tiers of Europe's elite leagues.

Shortlisted players are subject to both the eye-test and data scouting. Every player features two bespoke reports, one for each form of analysis.

The Eye Test

Each Shortlisted player is watched extensively by a SCOUTED video scout with deep expertise in player profiling and a track record of accuracy, using techniques honed over a decade of industry-leading experience.

The Data Report

The SCOUTED Pro data reports provide a detailed overview of a player’s style and output within their current environment.

Visualised through Performance Index Scores for Archetypes and Superpower, these proprietary modelling tools translate hundreds of SkillCorner's industry-leading Physical and Game Intelligence metrics into vivid nomenclature that communicates a player’s in-game instincts and on-pitch functions.

Archetypes

Archetypes are SCOUTED’s proprietary analytical framework that collapse hundreds of complex metrics into simple football language. They're designed to help you quickly understand a player’s perfect role, deeply validated by SkillCorner data. Each is constructed based on unique combinations of player Superpowers, in-game attributes broken down into six key areas:

Physical: Splits industry-leading SkillCorner Physical Data into five distinct strings of athleticism: Coverage, Agility, Speed, Explosiveness and Intensity

Phases of Play: Provides a glimpse into how often a player ‘shows up’ in a specific in-possession phase, considering Possessions, Passing Options and Off Ball Runs in a variety of forms

SCOUTED’s player discovery and evaluation process is built on twelve years of refined expertise.

Discovery: Our shortlists are the result of a refined data scouting process - spotting physical outliers from our range of tested models and Archetypes - as well as hundreds of hours of scouring youth and senior leagues by video.
Validation: Whether spotted by video or in data, every player has the same rigorous validation process applied: data picks are scouted deeply and eyetest spots are investigated, until we have a deep understanding of a player’s instincts, traits and eventual ceiling.
Stress-test: Eye-test and data reports are produced independently to challenge results and remove bias. We dig into conflicts and use data and video in harmony to untangle knots.
Synthesis: We produce and deliver detailed but simple reports directly to you, for at-a-glance understanding of our complex proprietary models. We detail our workings so you can dig into our processes and reflect on your own.

Jake Entwistle is SCOUTED's data scout and analyst. Since 2024, he's been developing the proprietary frameworks that power the Pro Data Reports, including Archetypes. He is responsible for early player discovery and data intelligence.

FAQ

What leagues and age groups do you cover?

We focus on players under the age of 23 for both the Shortlist and the Watchlist. We have a global approach to player discovery, but dedicate most time to exploring emerging markets in Scandinavia, the Balkans, Japan, Africa and Australia, as well as leagues outside of Brazil and Argentina in South America. We also believe there's talent and value in the second and third tiers of Europe's elite leagues.

How often will I receive updates?

We will send a new PDF every month. These will include at least five players on the Shortlist and at least 20 on the Watchlist.

How is this different from our own scouting department, data providers or video tools?

SCOUTED Pro is designed to be complimentary to direct data providers, not replace them. We offer bespoke data insight and interpretation, and our work is designed to be directly applicable to the game and live projects. Pro helps teams understand how to get more from their data providers, and how to communicate that knowledge effectively.

What happens to our access if we cancel mid-subscription?

Both annual and monthly subscribers will retain online access until the end of their paid subscription term, and can keep any reports downloaded during this period. Reports published after a subscription ends will not be available.

Can we try before we subscribe?

Do you offer bespoke consultancy services or reports?

Not currently. Right now, the team is focused on delivering the best Pro reports possible for current and future subscribers. We are considering opening bespoke consultancy slots in the future, and any announcement will be made via our email list.

How do Archetypes relate to SkillCorner's data?

Archetypes are developed based on real-world player profiles and then translated into Performance Indices using SkillCorner data. Multiple curated metrics that serve as the best signals for specific attributes and playing style instincts are combined into a single score and scaled from 0-100. To calculate this, Z-score normalisation is applied to each metric with each weighted based on importance. The weighted z-scores are summed to get a raw performance index which is then scaled so that 50 represents the average performer.

Who is actually producing these reports?

Jake Entwistle and Llew Davies are the team behind SCOUTED's editorial pedigree, and lead the analysis powering SCOUTED Pro. Jake leads the data reporting and Llew vets each player with the eye test.

Can we cancel or change plans (Monthly to Annual) at any time?

Do you offer regional / flexible pricing?

Our intent is that clubs with smaller departments or from developing leagues should not be priced out where possible. Please reach out to pro@scoutedftbl.com.

Do you offer invoicing / annual contracts for procurement purposes?

Yes. All standard memberships will have an invoice issued at checkout by Stripe. For larger organisations wishing to pay by bank transfer, please contact pro@scoutedftbl.com to have an invoice issued. Membership will be applied when payment is confirmed.
